I recently heard someone say, “When we abandon shared values, chaos ensues.” And it struck a chord deep within me. We’re witnessing that truth in real time.

Democracy is founded on equality - the idea that all people are created equal in the eyes of God. This isn’t a political statement; it’s a spiritual understanding. A sacred truth. Yet somehow, that foundation seems to be cracking. Somewhere along the way, we took over God's job and became judges of who is worthy... and who is not.
The idea that we share basic, guiding values- like honesty, compassion, mutual respect, or “love your neighbor as yourself” - feels less and less certain in today’s world.
And when those values are no longer collectively honored, chaos doesn’t just happen - it multiplies. Fast.
So I’m taking some time to pause. To clarify my own values. To be sure I’m building my life, and choosing my actions, based on what truly matters to me. I don’t want to be swayed by the noise or the fear or the disconnection around me. I want to live by the light of my own inner compass.
And no matter what others do, I want to do my part to uphold what is good, what is right, what is rooted in love. Because I do believe: God is love.
My prayer is that I never make excuses for wrongdoing. That I don’t let apathy, cynicism, or convenience blur the lines of what I know to be true. I want to be willing to do the heavy lifting of the soul, even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
Because in the end, that’s what keeps the light on and that's what really matters to me.
